Habitat Macedonia organized a volunteers’ day

Habitat Macedonia organized a volunteers’ day aimed at providing assistance in rebuilding the home of the Usein family in the “Ciglana” settlement. A year ago this family has completely lost their home in a fire that swept the whole neighborhood. Thanks to the help provided by the Government, the City of Skopje and the Municipality of Butel, the burnt houses were rebuilt however many other items remained to be provided for the houses to become comfortable homes for these families. Therefore, Natasha and Orhan Usein have taken a loan from the Roma and marginalized groups Fund, a joint program of Habitat Macedonia and Horizonti, and together they began to plan the completion of their home. The volunteers’ day was attended by the wife of the US Ambassador to Macedonia, Ms. Mary Jo Wohlers, Honorary Member of the Habitat Committee of Macedonia. Together with the volunteer team from the US Embassy she joined the construction works, including several staff members of Habitat and Horizonti, as well. The volunteers’ interventions that were completed during that day were: laying styrofoam sheets on the exterior walls (thermal insulation), mounting thermal insulation on the bathroom ceiling, finishing the eaves and completing the façade layer. On one hand today’s volunteers’ work helped this family to significantly reduce the home renovation costs that will ensure maximum utilization of the loan, and on the other hand, it will prompt the neighborhood to respond to the need of reaching out to those who seek help.
